Why do packaging factories have MOQs?
Every custom box design requires setup that happens once, regardless of order size: die-cutting tools, print plates, lamination settings, color matching and machine calibration. The cost of that setup has to be spread across the units in your order. Below a certain quantity the per-piece price becomes unrealistic - for the factory and for the buyer.
MOQ also protects quality. Short, chaotic runs make consistent color and structural QC harder. A sane MOQ lets the factory run the job properly, inspect it properly (we use AQL 2.5 on every batch) and still keep your unit price competitive.
What a 100-pc MOQ actually lets you test
Ordering small is not "less serious" - it is a deliberate first step. A 100-pc run is enough to validate:

Before ordering, work backwards from demand: estimate 4-6 weeks of sales, add roughly 15-20% buffer for defects and giveaways, then round up to the nearest sensible batch. Ordering slightly more than you need beats a reorder panic during a campaign.
When to skip the pilot
If your product is already selling and you are simply switching packaging suppliers, order closer to your real volume - you are not testing the market, only the factory.
